Part-Time/Temporary Employees or Independent Contractors

policy
Download

Many companies have initiated “just-in-time” methods for hiring and scheduling employees. Others have a “pool” of part-time workers to fill in as needed. As the gig economy grows throughout the United States, companies such as Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash rely heavily on gig workers. Also, employers frequently retain the services of independent contractors to assist them during peak business periods, to work on special assignments, and to perform services that are not part of the employer’s regular business. In addition to the “just-in-time” process, there are also the “virtual office” and “virtual project” concepts. While these terms may have different meanings to different people in different industries, they all connote the use of employees on a part-time, temporary, or contract basis. Use this policy template to create a policy that fits the needs of your organization.
