Extracurricular Activities

policy
Download

Extracurricular activities, such as company picnics, trips to sporting or entertainment events, charitable and community volunteering, and teambuilding exercises, can be a memorable way to boost morale, build camaraderie, and reward employees for their commitment to your organization. Usually, extracurricular activities will be wholly positive and incident-free experiences. Nonetheless, employers must also proactively manage and minimize their risk and liability related to these events. When employees are taken outside of the work context or premises - and/or when alcohol is introduced into the mix - problems can arise, particularly where sexual harassment and workers’ compensation claims are concerned. Therefore, employers should spell out expectations for employee conduct at such events, noting how and when established company policies apply. Use this Extracurricular Activities policy template to create a policy that fits the needs of your organization.
