Employment and Reemployment of Veterans
Congress enacted Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) (38 USC Sec. 4301 et seq.) to encourage non-career service in the uniformed services by eliminating or minimizing the disadvantages to civilian employment. The law is designed to minimize the disruption to the lives of employees and their employers when an individual becomes a military reservist. It provides the guidelines for their employment and reemployment upon completion of military service and prohibits discrimination against these individuals because of their service. The law covers virtually every employer, including state and federal government.
