Community Involvement
Civic-minded, socially responsible employees can be an asset in the workplace. Such employees often develop skills (such as communication and leadership) and are generally happier and more engaged as a result. However, there are occasions when community involvement impacts an employee’s ability to perform their assigned duties. In such instances, employers may wish to have policies addressing such issues and need to be mindful that there are a variety of federal and state laws that prohibit taking disciplinary action against employees because of their off-duty involvement in community affairs (e.g., religious worship, charity drives, political campaigns). Use this Community Involvement policy template to create a policy that fits the needs of your organization.
