Trump nominees near confirmation
President Trump’s nominees for positions across several agencies continue to make their way through the confirmation process, including some who have advanced to the full Senate for a vote.
Committee approves DOL, EEOC nominees
After a hearing on June 18, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted along party lines to move numerous Trump nominees for the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to the Senate floor for confirmation.
The committee voted 12-11 to clear Jonathan Berry to be Solicitor of Labor and Andrew Rogers for DOL Wage and Hour Administrator. It also advanced the nominations of Daniel Aronowitz for assistant secretary of labor for the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) by a 14-9 vote; David Keeling for assistant secretary of labor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) by a 12-11 vote; and Jeremiah Workman for assistant secretary of labor for Veterans’ Employment and Training by a vote of 13-10.
The DOL is expected to revise several Biden-era rules. It has already indicated it will no longer enforce the final independent contractor rule and will revisit the final rule on overtime. In addition, Trump revoked Biden’s federal contractor minimum wage Executive Order after the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals held the president has the authority to increase federal contractors’ minimum wage.
