Rescission of EO 11246 launches attack on DEI, civil rights agenda

On January 21, 2025, President Donald Trump issued Executive Order (EO) 14173, titled “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity,” which revoked EO 11246 and launched an attack on what it characterizes as “illegal” diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and on the underpinning of the civil rights agenda in place since 1965.
