There’s an old courtroom adage about certain woeful arguments: They wouldn’t pass the straight-face test. But recent events make clear that we need a new, higher standard. So many baseless, unsupportable, unsubstantiated, false statements have become our daily fodder, so litter our lives that we have to spend half the day just filtering out the immoral, unethical, hateful, spiteful spam. And this is not the anonymous sputum on the internet—no, these are the product of our political and educational leaders.
