Rice University gets schooled in Title IX

I wanted to write about this very recent case for a couple of reasons. First, some subscribers are universities/colleges and are covered by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, prohibiting sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives federal funding (which is just about any school). This Title IX issue often lands on the desk of HR professionals at a school.

But there’s a second, more broad-based reason. The Rice University case provides a roadmap on how a male can claim sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
