Oakland County orders screening of employees
On March 24, 2020, the Oakland County Health Commission, at the behest of Oakland County Executive David Coulter, issued an order requiring screening of employees permitted to work during the effective dates of Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Executive Order (EO) 2020-21. The EO, titled Stay Safe, Stay Home, prohibitsnonessential business operations. Oakland County is one of the most populous counties in Michigan and a business hub for the state.
Details of the Oakland County order
Starting March 25 at 12:00 p.m., businesses operating in Oakland County must develop and implement a daily screening program for all staff.
The screening criteria must cover the following:
- A symptom check, including fever (when a touchless thermometer is available, a temperature check is strongly recommended in lieu of verbal confirmation), cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and diarrhea;
- Whether there has been any close contact in the last 14 days with someone with a COVID-19 diagnosis; and
- Whether the employee has traveled internationally or domestically in the last 14 days.
A yes to the screening questions requires the employee to be excluded from work. A yes to the symptom check question requires exclusion from work until she has had three days with no fever and seven days since her first symptom. A yes to the close contact or travel questions requires exclusion for 14 days after the "close contact with the COVID-19" and 14 days following travel.
