NYC expands protected categories to prohibit height, weight discrimination

On May 11, 2023, the New York City Council enacted Intro. 209-A, a bill designed to prohibit height and weight discrimination under the New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL). New York City Mayor Eric Adams has since signed the bill into law. Accordingly, effective November 22, 2023, it will be unlawful in New York City to discriminate in employment, housing, and public accommodations based on a person’s height and weight.
