Michigan House and Senate introduce bills to modify Earned Sick Time Act

Michigan’s Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) will become effective on February 21, 2025. Last-minute bills have been introduced by both the state House and the state Senate designed to address serious issues the Act presents to Michigan employers. On Wednesday, January 8, the first day of the 103rd Michigan Legislature, the Senate introduced a bill to modify the ESTA. The very next day, the House introduced its own bill.

Most significant changes from Senate

Among its most significant proposed changes, Senate Bill (SB) 15 would:

·     Change the definition of “small business” from those with fewer than 10 employees to those with fewer than 25 employees.
