MDHHS updates gathering and face mask protocols

In response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recently revised its emergency rules for gatherings and the use of face masks.

Face masks still required

Any person responsible for a business, store, office, government office, school, organized event, or other operation must deny entry or service to any individual (including employees) not wearing a face mask. You may accept an individual's verbal representation he isn't wearing a mask because he falls within a specified exception (e.g., can't medically tolerate the covering).

Capacity limitations

Under the revised rules issued on October 29, gatherings at nonresidential venues where two or more persons from more than one household are present in a shared space are subject to the following limitations:
