How to work from home during the pandemic
During the current pandemic, with stay-at-home orders in place, many are finding challenges working from home. From loud new “coworkers” to the exhaustion of adjusting to new technologies, there’s a lot to deal with.
Create a quiet space
We’re all in this together—sometimes literally. Many people are working at home with children or significant others, and this can cause distractions. Even just having a pet around can disrupt your workflow. Finding a place in your home you dedicate to work can help physically and psychologically.
One of the nice things about working in an office was that when you left, you left (e-mails and Slack aside). Now we’re all remaining in the same space for an extended period, and the lines are more blurred. Dedicating a space as a “work space” can help you focus when you’re working and then step away from work when you need a break.
Check in with coworkers
Even if you aren’t working with a particular person that day, reach out just to say hello or see how they are doing. Many people may be experiencing a sense of loss of community. Reaching out to your coworkers can create a stronger bond that will last longer than the quarantine.
Employees who feel valued are more willing to put effort into their work. Talking with another person can also make you feel good, too.
As tempting as it is, don’t use social media!
