Finding yourself checking résumés for vax status? You’re not alone
The debate over vaccine requirements continues to rage, but more than a few employers are requiring the shots and making it clear they appreciate knowing up front if a job candidate is vaccinated. Some research has shown that at least some employers are automatically tossing résumés that don’t include vaccination status. The law generally allows employers to require the shots, and certain employers are even required by law to mandate vaccination.
A look at job postings
In September, the Indeed Hiring Lab released research showing that as of August 30, the number of Indeed job postings per million that required vaccination was up 242% from a month earlier.
That doesn’t mean most postings included the requirement, however. Indeed’s data showed that in the seven days ending August 30, nearly 2% of personal care and home health job postings included vaccination requirements. The previous month, the share was less than 0.5%. In the same time period, job postings in the childcare sector requiring vaccination went from less than 1% to nearly 1.5%.
The trend wasn’t limited to fully in-person sectors. The data showed vaccination requirements in administrative assistant and legal job postings also increased even though that kind of work often can be done remotely. Some job advertisements on Indeed were found to recommend but not require vaccination.
