EEOC sues Meatheads
Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited for the chance to use the term “meatheads” in the headline of an article? Thanks to an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) age discrimination lawsuit against a moving company it claims has a pattern and practice of recruiting and hiring only younger workers, I now have that opportunity.
Meathead move makes EEOC take notice
In most cases, the EEOC investigates employers after an individual has contacted the agency and complained about an employer. In 2017, however, the EEOC took the unusual step of investigating Meathead Movers—a moving company based in San Luis Obispo, California—on its own without first receiving a complaint.
This fall, it sued the company and accused Meathead Movers of discriminatory hiring based on age. The agency’s approach in the lawsuit is new and creative.
