Biden planning progressive, activist 'First 10 Days'

After weeks of polite restraint, as Inauguration Day came and went, President Joe Biden unveiled a series of initiatives that will mark his first days in office as the most progressive and active since the New Deal.
 

In the space of 48 hours, the new administration announced the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion omnibus COVID response/economic relief bill, pledged to rescind a sheaf of Executive Orders on subjects ranging from travel bans to evictions to masks, and presented a bold reformation of American immigration policy. The combination of executive actions and legislative proposals not only laid out Biden's "vision" but also indicated the president is prepared to use all the means at his disposal to achieve his goals. The Democratic Party's concerns about Biden adopting a path of tepid moderation appear to have been put to rest.

American Rescue Plan

Many of the important initiatives in this $1.9 trillion plan are focused on the COVID pandemic (for more on that, see "Biden plans to confront COVID-19 crisis, increase leave" on pg. 4), but it includes nearly $1 trillion earmarked for proposals directed at giving direct support to individuals and businesses. Specifically, President Biden has proposed:
