2021 from a New England perspective: Things are looking up
As a new year approaches, one thing is for sure: Most will gladly see 2020 in the rearview mirror. Challenges remain, especially in the workplace, but there’s good reason for optimism. Let’s review some of the challenges along with the reasons for good cheer.
On the national landscape
At the time of this writing, we didn’t know the final composition of Congress and specifically whether Republicans would retain their majority in the Senate, which could affect how they work with the new president. If they keep the majority, some observers think a stalemate will ensue, but others believe the parties will find opportunities for compromise between the House and Senate and the White House.
No one likes change, but it’s almost guaranteed when the Oval Office’s new occupant is from a different party than his predecessor. In early 2021, the Joe Biden administration is likely to roll back Donald Trump-era immigration restrictions, which could make it easier to find skilled foreign workers to fill vacant positions. Here are some other predictions:
